Lacey and KOP doulas were recommended to me by my OB, and I am very grateful that I was connected with them. I had good feelings from the moment I spoke with Lacey and Jackie. Our first meeting was very educational and helped me navigate what interventions might be offered/suggested, how they could affect labor, and whether or not I would want to avoid or consider them.

I went into labor 2.5 weeks early. My water broke at 4:00
am when my husband was out of town. This is where Lacey and Jackie really came through. They were in touch with me even in the early hours of the morning and offered support until I was ready for in person support. Without going into too much detail, I had a VERY fast labor and I have told many people that I don’t think I would have mentally or emotionally gotten through it without Lacey. I tell anyone who will listen to me that they should hire KOP Doulas because they offer support that your OB, Nurse or significant other are unable to offer.

We were paired with both Alex Shaw and Ashley Mallory as our doulas during the pregnancy with our first child. We so appreciated having two doulas from the same organization who were assigned to us, as opposed to having a backup doula from another agency. We ended up working more closely with Alex and she was amazing beyond words.
It was important to us to have as low-intervention and non-medicated birth as possible. Alex and Ashley prepared us for that in a number of ways and supported us throughout. When labor started, Alex and Ashley offered helpful guidance via text even in the middle of the night. When we felt it was time, Alex came to our house as labor was intensifying; she guided us through the last hour or so at home by encouraging us to try different positions, breathing exercises, and offering affirming words. When it was time to head to Lankenau Hospital, she followed us there and was with us in the delivery room. Our plan worked out well because the first check at the hospital showed 8cm dilatation!
When it was time to push about 45 minutes later, Alex partnered so well with the nurses and hospital staff to encourage pushing in different positions and provided encouragement. This was the part that we were most concerned with, but Alex navigated this dynamic beautifully.
After four and a half hours of pushing without intervention or medication, our son was born healthy and happy; Alex stayed for about an hour afterwards to make sure we were settled. We are so grateful that Alex was there with us throughout that day, and cannot recommend her more highly. When it’s time for kid #2, we would love to work with Alex again.
