Why Main Line Families Keep Choosing Gladwyne Animal Hospital

Gladwyne Animal Hospital has earned the Main Line Parent LOVE Award seven times — and it's no accident. Discover why Main Line families trust this independently-owned veterinary practice with their beloved pets

Gladwyne Animal Hospital dog kisses woman.

What makes the Main Line special isn’t just the tree-lined streets, top-rated schools, or charming walkable towns — it’s the relationships. It’s running into a familiar face at the grocery store, cheering alongside neighbors at school events, and building trust with the people around you over time. That same sense of community is exactly what families look for when choosing a veterinarian. And it’s why Gladwyne Animal Hospital earned a Main Line Parent LOVE Award seven times.

Each year, the Main Line Parent team asks readers who they love and why — through a ballot that opens in December and runs through Valentine’s Day. Families don’t just vote; they share heartfelt, specific endorsements in their own words. Their stories make the annual LOVE List a sincerely trustworthy collection of referrals because every nomination reflects a real family’s real experience.

Members like Gladwyne Animal Hospital collect endorsements year-round directly on their Main Line Parent Member Profile Page. Each endorsement counts toward the following year’s recognition. Gladwyne Animal Hospital has now earned this recognition seven times — a testament to how consistently, and how deeply, Main Line families trust this practice.

A Practice Rooted in Main Line History

Gladwyne Animal Hospital has been serving Main Line families since 1964. That’s more than six decades of care, continuity, and community, spanning generations of pets and the people who love them.

When Dr. Carrie Sutor took ownership of the practice in 2009, she inherited that deep-rooted legacy and made it her mission to strengthen it.

“When I took over this practice, I knew the foundation was already something special. My goal was never to change what made it great — it was to build on it. The relationships here go back decades, and that means everything to me.”

Today, the hospital has grown to a staff of 26 employees across two locations, many of whom were born and raised right here on the Main Line. They shop at the same stores, attend the same events, and send their kids to the same schools as the families they serve. That’s not a coincidence — it’s a defining part of who they are.

“Our culture is everything,” Dr. Sutor says. “My team is amazing — we love helping families feel confident caring for their pets. They always go the extra mile. And I’m proud that we’re independently and woman-owned.”

Veterinary Care That Feels Personal

For many families, a visit to Gladwyne Animal Hospital feels less like an errand and more like a natural extension of daily life. It’s not unusual to spot neighbors catching up in the waiting room, swapping stories about a new puppy or a beloved aging dog.

Clients notice it, too. “Gladwyne Animal Hospital has not only taken great care of my pets throughout the years, they have saved my cat’s life,” said one pet parent in their LOVE Award Nomination. “Dr. Carrie Sutor has specifically been an incredible vet, performing last-minute surgeries and being available to answer questions day and night.”

Dr. Sutor herself raised her four children while growing the practice. For years, her kids spent their afternoons at the hospital after school at Gladwyne Elementary, occasionally popping their heads into exam rooms to ask when it was time to head home. For visiting families, those unscripted moments made the experience feel exactly like what it was: genuine.

“I think the families who came in during those years could see that this wasn’t just a job for us. My kids grew up here. The community grew up with us. That kind of continuity is rare, and I don’t take it for granted.” Today, Dr. Sutor’s children are grown, but those years reflect the same blending of life, work, and community that continues to define the practice.

Veterinary medicine, at its core, is built on trust. Pets can’t speak for themselves. Their families rely on their veterinary team not just for clinical expertise, but for honest guidance and reassurance — especially during life’s more stressful and emotional moments. When that care comes from someone who truly understands your community and your life, it feels different.

One longtime client, Jill Sussman, put it this way in her LOVE Award Nomination: “Through 15 years with our elderly dog, and up until his very last day, the support, availability, and expertise the vets at GAH provided was nothing less than exceptional. When it was time to put our dog to rest, Carrie made herself available immediately, educated us on every option available, and offered to come to our home — which is what we chose. She made his last moments comfortable and pain-free.”

What Independent Ownership Really Means for Your Pet

Gladwyne Animal Hospital is independently owned, and that distinction matters more than you might think. Without a corporate structure or outside shareholders calling the shots, every decision is made locally, by people who know their patients. There’s no one-size-fits-all protocol to follow, no pressure to rush through appointments.

In practice, that means:

  • Appointments that aren’t rushed, with time for real conversation
  • Collaborative decision-making that takes your pet’s unique needs into account
  • A team empowered to do what’s right, not just what’s efficient

For Main Line families, that often translates into a more thoughtful, personalized experience — one where they feel genuinely heard and supported.

Clients feel the difference. “They are incredibly supportive, with fantastic bedside manners,” says Amy Cooper, whose dog and cat have been patients for over 10 years. “They spend quality time with our pets — and us — to ensure that all needs are covered.”

The practice also embraces innovative approaches to care. “They are really innovative,” Stacy Raphael noted, “including acupuncture and light therapy when my dog had debilitating arthritis. I have worked with nearly every doctor there, and all have been engaged and spot on.”

More Than a Vet Visit: A Community Connection

The relationship between Gladwyne Animal Hospital and the Main Line community extends well beyond exam rooms and appointments. The team regularly shows up at local school events, youth sports games, and neighborhood gatherings — and they give back, too. The practice has contributed $5,000 in scholarships and donations to the local fire department as well as other community fundraisers. Additionally many team members volunteer at shelters and rescues.

“Gladwyne Animal Hospital is a staple in our community,” says Amy Cooper. “All of our local friends and neighbors with furry children trust Carrie and her team to care for their pets.”

That continuity builds something lasting over time. A puppy’s first visit can grow into years of preventive care. Emily K. witnessed this firsthand: “They caught our dog’s melanoma early and followed her for four years through that journey. Their kindness and support will never be forgotten.”

Why Families Vote for Gladwyne Animal Hospital Year After Year

Earning the Main Line Parent LOVE Award seven times says a lot — but not just about clinical skill. Families vote for how a practice makes them feel. It’s about being remembered. Being known. Having a team that genuinely cares about your life, not just your appointment slot.

For Dr. Sutor and her team, that recognition reflects something they prioritize every single day. Veterinary medicine is a demanding profession that requires both scientific expertise and emotional resilience. The team at Gladwyne Animal Hospital chooses this work because they’re called to it.

“I am very grateful that Gladwyne Animal Hospital is part of the Main Line community,” said client Jodi Brown. “Whether it’s urgent surgery or preventive health, they are ready to help — on the phone, in the office, on weekends.”
