When Callie first walked into The Rock School West Chester, she was three years old. She wasn’t dreaming of a professional dance career; she simply loved to move to music.
What began as one class a week slowly grew into something much bigger. Callie made friends, discovered the thrill of performing, and found herself looking forward to class more and more. Today, as a senior preparing for college, she trains in both ballet and contemporary dance, and The Rock has become one of the most important facets of her life.

In 2026, The Rock School was Most Awarded School at the Youth America Grand Prix Finals, the world’s largest ballet competition. For Callie, that foundation continued to evolve as her interests grew. Ballet remained the core of her training, while contemporary dance gave her another outlet for musicality and self-expression.

Callie’s years at The Rock haven’t only happened inside the studio. She’s competed, performed in The Nutcracker and spring showcases, and felt the nerves and excitement of stepping in front of an audience.
She says those experiences taught her that dance is about more than technique. It’s about teamwork, commitment, and sharing something meaningful with an audience.
Both she and her family emphasize that it’s also about community.
Callie’s mother, Julia Bergson-Shilcock, reflects on her family’s experience as they enter their 14th year at The Rock School West Chester:
“What initially led us to enroll at The Rock was the exceptional reputation they have for technical training. However, what has kept us coming back year after year is the way it’s become a home away from home for our girls.”
She describes friendships, participation in Rock’s Performance Ensembles, and teachers who genuinely care for their students.

Classical ballet remains at the heart of training at The Rock School, and for good reason. The Rock School’s West Chester campus offers options for nearly every age and interest. Young children can begin with Dance With Me alongside a caregiver before progressing into Pre-Ballet. As students grow, the Ballet Division expands their training with contemporary, jazz, musical theater, and more. Adults can find their own place at The Rock through open ballet classes.
Whether it’s introducing a three-year-old to movement, giving a teenager a creative outlet, or welcoming an adult back into the studio after years away, the same excellent teaching applies at every level.
A Local Studio With a Global Reach
The Rock School West Chester has been part of the Chester County community for over two decades. Its approximately 10,000-square-foot facility includes five spacious studios with sprung floors, which are designed to protect dancers’ joints while giving them room to train, rehearse, and perform.
At the same time, families here are connected to a much larger dance world. During its 2026 summer programs, The Rock welcomed more than 730 students from 41 states and 19 countries, including 100 male dancers, supported by 33 guest teachers.

Perhaps the most meaningful part of Callie’s story is that she never had to know where dance would lead. She started at three because she loved it. She stayed because of the friends, teachers, challenges, and community she found along the way.
As she looks toward college, Callie hopes to keep dancing. “My time at The Rock has been incredibly influential, helping to shape not only who I am as a dancer, but who I’ve become as a person,” she said.
Some dancers at The Rock will go on to professional careers. Others will dance through college, continue for fun, or simply carry the confidence and discipline they built in the studio into whatever comes next.
