Meet The Lewis Family of Holy Child Academy in Drexel Hill
Discover how Kim and John Lewis found the right fit for all six of their children at Holy Child Academy.
Holy Child Academy in Drexel Hill is the only independent, coeducational Catholic preschool through eighth grade school in Delaware County. But when Kim and John Lewis were researching schools for their oldest son, Jack, they were not specifically set on a Catholic education, having both attended traditional public schools growing up.
Years later, Jack is entering seventh grade at Holy Child Academy in Drexel Hill, along with four of his brothers—Grant in fifth grade, Quinn in third grade, Reid in first grade, and Blaine in Pre-Kindergarten. The youngest Lewis child, Trent, will join his brothers at HCA next year when he starts at the Nursery School.
With all six of their children at HCA, Kim and John clearly made the right decision for their family. HCA became the obvious choice when they attended an open house, during which the school’s eighth graders give tours to prospective parents.
“We were both extremely impressed by the level of maturity, confidence, poise and speaking ability of these eighth graders! After leaving the tour, we both agreed that if our son embodied these traits as an eighth grader, we would be proud and feel we had provided a great start to his education,” said Kim.
HCA’s small class sizes (they boast an 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio) allow teachers to give their students individual attention and instill self-confidence. “We hoped to find a school not only strong in academic preparation, but one that would provide an environment where our children felt like more than a number,” Kim told us.
HCA also offers a rich curriculum and variety of extracurriculars to give students a well-rounded experience. The Lewis boys started violin and piano at the school at age five, participate in multiple sports, and particularly enjoy the school’s new Innovation Lab for STEAM education.
Finally, the Lewis family loves HCA for its strong sense of community.
“All of the students know each other, from eighth grade straight down to the tiny two-year-olds,” Kim describes. “The only way I can describe the feeling of seeing an eighth grader light up and take the hand of your three-year-old to help them, is that it feels like home.”
