Get Your Green On! St. Patrick’s Day Events Around the Main Line

Leaping Leprechauns, it's time for lucky shamrocks, rainbows, and pots o' gold

You may not even be a wee bit Irish, but you can certainly join in the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day! Originating as a traditional holiday honoring the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day was imported to the US, thanks to generations of Irish-Americans. In this country, the holiday is a looser interpretation of the Irish tradition, symbolized with shamrocks, leprechauns, rainbows, and pots of gold. And of course, wearing lots of green!

In the days leading up to March 17th, you’ll find parades, crafty activities, music festivals, and more in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Scroll down to see where you can get your “green on” around the Main Line.

Lure the Leprechauns: A St. Patrick’s Day Craft

Want to catch a leprechaun this St. Patrick’s Day? Leprechaun traps are a popular craft you can build with your kids. You’ll find lots of craft tutorials online, as well leprechaun trap kits that are ready to assemble. The basic design comprises a cardboard box painted green. Then you decorate it with shamrocks, glitter, rainbows, and gold coins as a lure. In the morning, let your kids find signs that these mischievous little elves were there. Maybe the leprechaun left tiny green footprints, turned your milk green, or performed some other little practical jokes.
