Family-Friendly Pride Month Events in June
June is Pride Month! Wave a rainbow flag at these Pride-themed events that promote awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community

Pride Month is celebrated in June with rainbow-themed parades, festivals, and special events in recognition of the LGBTQIA+ community. The month of June holds special significance for this historically marginalized group, as it commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Inn riots. Those riots sparked the gay rights movement, as well as annual gay pride parades that continue to this day.
Nowadays, Pride month enjoys a growing recognition in our culture that helps promote awareness and acceptance. The movement’s symbol, the rainbow, represents the spectrum of love in its many forms, as well as the diversity of the community. Above all, Pride month is a joyful celebration of one’s liberty, identity, and dignity, as well as the positive contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Wondering what all the letters represent in the gay and transgender community’s acronym? The abbreviation seems to be an evolving acronym, but we commonly see “LGBTQIA+”. That stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual. The plus sign is there to include other identities not specifically called out by the letters.
Gathered here are family-friendly, Pride-themed events that both educate and entertain. They offer an opportunity to learn more about LGBTQ+ issues, and celebrate diversity as a family. So whether someone in your family identifies as LGBTQIA+ or your family considers itself allies, you can show your support this June!
