A Decade of Transforming Smiles

Unwavering integrity and quality patient care were the ideals that Dr. Normand Boucher imparted on Dr. Brianna Yang in her time as a dental student and later as an orthodontic resident at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Now, a decade later, those very ideals remain at the heart of BY Orthodontics, where Dr. Boucher and Dr. Yang work together on the Main Line to transform smiles and uplift lives through exceptional orthodontic care.

 

Dr. Boucher, a board-certified orthodontist with extensive experience, began his career in family dentistry before specializing in orthodontics and periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania. He also filled the role of Chief of Orthodontics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

 

These experiences inspired him to open his private practice in 1987, and later return to his alma mater as a faculty member, where he first met Dr. Yang.

Dr. Brianna Yang: A Global Journey to Orthodontics

 

A native of Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Yang grew up in Australia and Korea and later moved to the U.S. as a teenager. Her inspiration to enter the field of orthodontics was sparked by several family members working in health care, as well as the continual patient/doctor relationship that the field affords.

 

“I remember when I had braces as a kid, I really looked forward to visits to my orthodontist so that I could see improvements,” Dr. Yang shared. “The field is very much art and science, and that’s what inspired me.”

 

She completed her dental education at Penn, graduated at the top of her class with distinguished honors, and specialized in orthodontics, where she practiced under the mentorship of Dr. Boucher. She also obtained board certification by the American Board of Orthodontics.

 

“I think what I respected most was that he truly practiced what he preached. He is whole-heartedly dedicated to his patients and takes their best interests to heart,” Dr. Yang shared in a recent interview. “He’s holistic and comprehensive in his approach, and that really resonated with me.”

Continuing the Legacy

Having stayed in contact with Dr. Boucher over the years, and after working in various orthodontic offices in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, Dr. Yang’s dream of owning her own practice came true in 2023 when she acquired Dr. Boucher’s practice. Her ultimate goal is to maintain the high standards set by Dr. Boucher, while evolving the practice to meet the needs of today’s patients.

 

Together, Dr. Yang and Dr. Boucher emphasize a patient-centered, boutique experience, distinguishing the practice from more volume-driven orthodontic offices. While Dr. Boucher focuses on adult TMJ treatments, a specialty that attracts patients from as far as New York and Connecticut, Dr. Yang is expanding the practice’s adolescent and Invisalign offerings while maintaining the TMJ focused practice.

Personalized and Private Care

 

The office is unique in that it features four private operatories, catering to patients and families who appreciate a more personal and private experience. Another unique facet of the practice is that it’s run by a staff who have worked together for many years, some for decades, demonstrating an often rare commitment to continuity of care.

 

Collaboration for Better Outcomes

 

Dr. Yang values building strong relationships with her patients, and her approach to orthodontics is one of the practice’s defining features. She is particularly passionate about addressing not just the aesthetics of teeth, but also the functionality, including how orthodontics can improve jaw growth and airway health. 

 

Her practice philosophy centers on comprehensive care, with an emphasis on collaboration with other healthcare providers to ensure the best treatment outcomes. She strives to maintain a warm, family friendly environment, where patients feel seen and valued.

Community Engagement and Connection

Dr. Yang has also been working on increasing the practice’s involvement in the Main Line community, exploring ways to further contribute to local schools and events. This, along with her dedication to providing personalized care, has already earned a loyal patient base for Dr. Yang.
