MLK Day Activities and Volunteering Opps for Main Line Families
MLK Day is January 20th. Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a meaningful activity for your kids or the whole family

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'”
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
MLK Day commemorates the birthday of Dr. King, whose work advanced equality and justice for all Americans. Although schools and business may be closed for the holiday, MLK Day has become more than just a day off. It’s an opportunity to honor King’s legacy and his contributions to the civil rights movement by participating in a day of service.
As the tradition of volunteering on MLK Day has grown, so has the number of service activities for families. If you’re looking for a community service project or special activity for MLK Day, scroll down to find a handful of events around the Main Line. We will continue to add more as we find them! And be sure to visit the Martin Luther King Day of Service website, and search their listing of volunteer opps in the Greater Philadelphia area.
In addition to volunteering, here are some other ways to teach your children about Martin Luther King Jr. and honor his legacy:
- Read a children’s book about Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.
- Watch videos about MLK’s life geared for kids, like these on Kids Academy and PBS Kids.
- Check your local library for fun and educational MLK Day activities for kids.
