Alexandra Rutkay, a New Yorker and mom to a little boy had a lot of trouble finding the perfect diaper bag when she was pregnant with her son. Every bag on the market seemed to fall into one of the following categories: backpacks, corporate bags, fanny packs, or designer bags. The backpacks and briefcase types were not ideal for life as a metro parent. Getting in and out of Ubers, trains, and walking everywhere meant it had to be light and not bulky. Designer diaper bags can cost upwards of $2,000 and you’ll probably never use it past your child years. Fanny packs have never been the ideal aesthetic and the ones on the market are too small to hold exactly what she needed for her son.

Realizing there was a gap in the market for small yet stylish, functional but not too over the top, and most importantly a timeless looking piece you’d want to wear even if out without your child – citymouse™ was born.

Citymouse™ was officially launched in 2023 with its hero product, the city mini sling diaper bag. Each bag is crafted from regenerated nylon woven from plastics found polluting the ocean and the same nylon some fancy designer brands use. The bags are designed to the size of large diapers and a pack of travel wipes, can hold a portable potty topper, credit cards in the card slots, key lanyard, a change of clothes, and a holder for a sippy cup or bottle in the corner fits drinks snugly. Each bag comes with a nylon changing sheet- ideal for trips to public restrooms or a safe and clean option to sit on or use for your child when out and about. Each bag comes with its choice of strap, 6 precisely, to mix and match. Although small in size, customers are often shocked at how much the bag can actually hold. The trick lies in a collapsable fabric which expands or contracts and doesn’t look worse for the wear either way.
