Finished Compost Summer Pop-In

Keep your garden healthy with locally made compost that feeds your soil naturally.
Mother Compost’s nutrient-rich compost is made from food scraps collected right here in our community and returned to the soil through a local processing partnership. This closed-loop system diverts organic waste from landfill while improving soil structure, boosting microbial life, and supporting stronger, more resilient plants. It’s a simple, high-impact way to nourish your garden while participating in a truly local circular system.
Mother Compost is bringing fresh batches of compost to SHIFT from June 23rd through July 5th during shop hours.
$15 per 5-gallon bag
NOTE: Compost is first-come, first-served while supplies last.
Why add compost?
Compost feeds your soil before the growing season takes off. It:
- Improves soil structure and drainage
- Adds slow-release nutrients that support strong root growth
- Increases microbial life for healthier, more resilient plants
- Helps soil retain moisture as temperatures rise
Whether you’re refreshing garden beds, top-dressing your lawn, or planting something new, compost builds the foundation for a thriving season.
How much compost?
Coverage per 5-gallon bag:
- ~8 sq ft with a 1″ top dressing
- ~4 sq ft with a 2″ application
Which depth to use:
- 1″ if you regularly amend or fertilize your soil
- 2″ if your soil hasn’t been amended in a while or needs rebuilding
Quick way to calculate:
Measure your garden bed (length × width = square feet), then:
- Divide by 8 for a 1″ layer
- Divide by 4 for a 2″ layer
