Peek into active nesting boxes to observe nature in action—from carefully tended eggs to fuzzy nestlings waiting for their next meal. Along the way, learn about cavity-nesting birds, the important role volunteers play in their protection, and simple ways you can help these feathered friends thrive at home. This family-friendly outing invites curious kids and nature-loving adults alike. Arrive curious, leave inspired.
What to expect:
Family-friendly tour for curious kids and nature-loving adults
Roughly a ¾-mile guided walk through Tyler’s succession field close to the Visitor Center and parking lot
Option to continue along a short path in the North Woods
Up-close views of nests, eggs, nestlings, and young birds (when present)
Insights into bluebird conservation and other cavity-nesting birds
Practical tips for supporting bluebirds at home
What to wear & carry:
Closed-toe shoes suitable for grassy fields
Hat to block the sun
Sunblock
Bug spray (please apply at home)
Binoculars (optional, but encouraged)
Strollers are not ideal; a child carrier is recommended for very young children.
When you arrive, please check in first at the Visitor Center, then meet your guide on the Visitor Center patio by 11 am.
