Black History – Historical Interpretation of Stagecoach Mary

February 22 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Dr. Daisy Century will take you on a journey through the life of Mary Fields, also known as Stagecoach Mary, a remarkable figure of the Wild West. Standing 6’2″ and weighing 200 pounds, Mary was a force to be reckoned with, known for her tough demeanor but also her gentle heart—unless you crossed her.

Dr. Century will engage you through every phase of Mary Field’s life. You will be right there to laugh, cry, sigh, and cheer as Mary Fields unfolds right in front of your eyes. Born a slave, she traveled across the U.S. doing various jobs, including farming, working on a steamboat, and as a stable hand. After caring for an ill friend in Montana, she became the first Black woman to drive a stagecoach delivering U.S. mail. Known for her reading skills and carrying two six-shooters, Mary Fields defied expectations and became a legendary figure in the Old West.

Every attendee will receive a complimentary raffle ticket for a chance to win our Black history-themed basket, filled with art, history, culture, and music. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, February 25th at the end of Rel Dowdell’s presentation.
