Bells Across PA Unveiling at Historic Trappe

August 2 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

As Pennsylvania prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, Historic Trappe is thrilled to be part of the Bells Across PA initiative. On Saturday, August 2 at 10:00 am at the Historic Trappe Speaker’s House, Historic Trappe will unveil a fiberglass bell featuring artwork by Lisa Short of L.T. Short Folk Art in North Wales, PA.

Through Bells Across PA, America250PA will be placing 108 fiberglass bells across the Commonwealth. The bell at the Speaker’s House is particularly special to Historic Trappe as the artist envisioned a bell that would celebrate fraktur, an art tradition that is distinctly Pennsylvania German. The design features symbols of the United States including the American eagle, Statue of Liberty, and motto “Liberty and Justice for All.” The bell will have a permanent home outside the Trappe Speaker’s House, once the residence of Frederick Muhlenburg, the first Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

This special event will celebrate Lisa Short’s artwork and showcase the progress that is being made on the Speaker’s House restoration ahead of its grand public opening in April, 2026. Guests can also enjoy free guided tours of the Speaker’s House throughout the day from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
