Juneteenth National Freedom Day commemorates the date of June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, TX finally learned of their freedom and celebrated with great joy. For more than 140 years, it has been the oldest African American holiday observed in the United States.
On Sunday, June 22, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, the Phoenixville Juneteenth Committee will host a community celebration on the 200 block of Bridge Street. Families can enjoy historical re-enactors, music, art, dance, drummers, street theater, magic, soul food, and storytelling.
The community is invited to join this meaningful celebration that honors African American heritage while educating attendees about this significant piece of American history.
