The Village Play Space, Open in Berwyn

This quaint, village-themed play space in Berwyn is a must-do for families with young children.

The Main Line’s newest indoor play area, The Village Play Space, is now open in Berwyn.

Owner Sara Martino, who was raised in Devon, said, “I wanted to design a space to stimulate imagination, foster creativity, and encourage interaction with others.” The Village Play Space does all of that.

The focal point is a miniature village where engaging– and not to mention beautiful– toys allow children to turn their imaginations up to full volume. The storefronts, which Sara plans to change often, are filled with irresistible themed toys. Youngsters can serve cupcakes in the bakery, sweep up at the hardware store, or indulge in a pretend lunch at the cafe.

After their time in the miniature village, children can crawl up a ladder and through the second story. There they will find another array of toys, windows they can wave from (and adults can see directly into), and a slide that makes an exit into a nook filled with books and dress-up clothes.

Across from the village is a wall of sensory toys—some homemade—that are placed within baby’s reach. The youngest visitors can explore this ever-changing area freely, finding, among other things, bottles filled with beads and glitter that they can shake, textures displayed in unique ways, and a darling dollhouse they can rearrange.

While the space is meant for kids six years and younger, older children are welcome to come along. Sara has stocked a comfortable seating area with games and books meant to encourage independent play. Parents can also sit in this area to chat with others and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee, all within view of their child.

Play options include Play By Day, which allows families to drop in. The cost of admission ranges from $5 to $10 for children (adults are free with their paying kiddo).

Play Soiree (don’t you love that name?) is another option, and this time it’s just for the adults. Play Soirees will be held during evening hours and will give patrons the chance to get creative with craft classes. Details, including the cost, for these BYO get-togethers will be posted to the events calendar on their website.

And finally, The Village Play Space will host curated birthday parties and private playdates. Sara and her team, will create a party or event just for your little one, freeing you up to just enjoy the fun.

The Village Play Space is located at 4 Midland Avenue in Berwyn. Visit their website for more details on future play events. You can also email Sara, and her team, at info@villageplaypa.com or call them at 610-644-0000.
