DESCRIPTION:Experience the story of the crucial turning point in the country’s fight for independence on a Valley Forge Trolley Tour! \nThis 90-minute trolley tour departs from the Visitor Center and is led by National Park Service trained tour guides. Tours include stops at the newly expanded Muhlenberg Brigade hut site and the original house that was General Washington’s Headquarters at Valley Forge. Trolley tours are ADA accessible. \nImportant accessibility notes: The interior of Washington’s Headquarters does not have a wheelchair accessible entrance and only service animals are allowed on board the trolley. \nAdvance reservations are recommended and need to be made by phone by calling the store at 610-624-5010. Tickets must be picked up in The Encampment Store gift shop at the Visitor Center no later than 30 minutes prior to the tour’s departure. They will release reserved tickets five minutes prior to scheduled tours\, so please plan to be on time. \nPlease note that reservations cannot be made online\, and can only be made by calling. \nTours take place at 11:00 am\, 1:00 and 3:00 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Witness an incredibly unique Halloween tradition started over 50 years ago by renowned local artist Andrew Wyeth and his son at the Chadds Ford Historical Society.  Over 70 native pumpkins from a Chadds Ford farm\, ranging in size from 150 to 400 pounds\, are carved by local artists and lit on Thursday night. These gourd masterpieces are then displayed for the next two days. Event attendees can enjoy a festive atmosphere with live music from “Kenny Thompson & Friends\,” a haunted trail\, raffles\, and food and drink for purchase while admiring the carvings. \nDates: \n\nThursday\, October 16\, 2 pm to 9 pm\nFriday\, October 17\, 2 pm to 10 pm\nSaturday\, October 18\, noon to 10 pm\n\nTicket Prices (purchased on-site at the admission tent): \n\n$15 for adults 18 and older\n$5 for children ages 7 to 17\nFree for children 6 and under / CFHS Members\n\nParking is FREE: Follow signs for General Parking to the Meadow next to the Chadds Ford Historical Society. DESCRIPTION:Dig into history at Newlin Grist Mill as the site celebrates and participates in International Archaeology Day! \nThis year’s International Archaeology Day coincides with the final Public Archaeology excavation of the year at Newlin Grist Mill. The public is invited to participate (or just watch) as Newlin Grist Mill’s professional archaeologist\, Keith Doms\, and a dedicated corps of archaeology volunteers seek to gain a deeper understanding of the site’s history through careful excavation using scientific techniques and thorough documentation. Depending on the day\, visitors might be invited to help screen excavated soil to look for small artifacts or assist with cleaning artifacts that have already been excavated. \nExcavations this season are planned for the Trimble Farm complex in the Historic Area. The Trimble family built their house on the property adjoining the Mill in 1739 and\, over time\, built a whole complex of structures to support the operations of their household and farm. By conducting archaeological studies in the area around the Trimble House\, the Newlin Grist Mill staff hopes to learn more about the people who lived and worked there in the 18th\, 19th\, and early 20th centuries. \nThis event is free and open to all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). No reservations are required. If you would like to help out with the dig\, be sure to wear clothes that can get dirty and close-toed footwear. Bring work gloves if you have them; the site has a limited number of pairs to lend.

SUMMARY:The Great Pumpkin Carve
DESCRIPTION:Witness an incredibly unique Halloween tradition started over 50 years ago by renowned local artist Andrew Wyeth and his son at the Chadds Ford Historical Society.  Over 70 native pumpkins from a Chadds Ford farm\, ranging in size from 150 to 400 pounds\, are carved by local artists and lit on Thursday night. These gourd masterpieces are then displayed for the next two days. Event attendees can enjoy a festive atmosphere with live music from “Kenny Thompson & Friends\,” a haunted trail\, raffles\, and food and drink for purchase while admiring the carvings. \nDates: \n\nThursday\, October 16\, 2 pm to 9 pm\nFriday\, October 17\, 2 pm to 10 pm\nSaturday\, October 18\, noon to 10 pm\n\nTicket Prices (purchased on-site at the admission tent): \n\n$15 for adults 18 and older\n$5 for children ages 7 to 17\nFree for children 6 and under / CFHS Members\n\nParking is FREE: Follow signs for General Parking to the Meadow next to the Chadds Ford Historical Society. Police will be at the Creek Road / Route 1 traffic light and the entrance and exit to the parking lot for traffic flow. \nAccepting CASH & CREDIT CARDS for admissions\, t-shirt sales\, and food and alcohol.
