DESCRIPTION:Join McKaig Nature Education Center and Dr. Brandi C.\, Research Scientist from Bat Conservation International\, for a fascinating evening exploring the secret life of bats. \nThis unique educational program will begin with a short classroom discussion at the historic Old Roberts Schoolhouse\, where you’ll learn about Pennsylvania’s native bat species (including the Little Brown Bat and the Big Brown Bat)\, their critical role in controlling local insect populations\, and the threat of White-Nose Syndrome. \nFollowing the discussion\, participants will head to the McKaig (Alderbrook) pond shore just as the sun sets to observe these nocturnal hunters. This is the optimal time to witness the “big rush” of foraging activity\, particularly as bats skim the water to drink and hunt emerging aquatic insects. Both children and adults are invited to come in costume and bring trick-or-treating bags. \nLast admission at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $12 for adults\, $8 for children ages 4-12. Children under 4 and members are free.
