Follow St. Patrick’s footsteps using your emailed treasure map (with instructions!) to discover the pot o’ gold hidden somewhere in the woods. The hunt will take about 45 minutes\, and when you find the pot\, you’ll receive some “gold” coins of your own. After your successful quest\, gather around a roaring bonfire for classic s’mores and share your discoveries with fellow adventurers. \nMcKaig members can join the fun for just $24 per group of 4\, while non-members can participate for $28 per group. Don’t miss this exciting and treasure-filled evening! \n\nRegister here – each registration is for 4 s’mores and kids receive McKaig “Gold.” Plan to bring a flashlight unless you’re in for more of a challenge\, and something to sit on. Additional s’mores kits and water bottles available. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear\, the event is rain or shine. \nThere will be a bonfire or 2 in a fire container at the event. DESCRIPTION:Join Newlin as they dig into history with archaeological excavations at Newlin Grist Mill and learn more about the site through the evidence under their feet! \nThe public is invited to participate (or just watch) as Newlin Grist Mill’s professional archaeologist\, Keith Doms\, and a dedicated corps of archaeology volunteers seek to gain a deeper understanding of the site’s history through careful excavation using scientific techniques and thorough documentation. Depending on the day\, visitors might be invited to help screen excavated soil to look for small artifacts or assist with cleaning artifacts that have already been excavated. \nScheduled 2026 Public Archaeology Days (10 am-3 pm): \nMarch 21\nApril 18\nMay 16\nJune 20\nJuly 18\nOctober 17 – International Archaeology Day \nFree and open to all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). No reservations are required. If you would like to help out with the dig\, be sure to wear clothes that can get dirty and close-toed footwear. Bring work gloves if you have them; the site has a limited number of pairs to lend. For safety\, hands-on participation is limited to those ages 5+.

They help run Tyler’s field trips and summer camp programs. They have a love of nature and have worked in the outdoor education field for 4+ years.  \nBarbara Frank is a PA Master Naturalist\, a Tyler-trained docent\, a yoga teacher\, an artist\, and a true lover of nature in all of its manifestations. She leads tours for children and adults.  \nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED \nThis program is best suited for elementary school-aged children accompanied by an adult. Family and siblings of any age are welcome. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. \nCheck in at the Visitor Center\, where you’ll meet your guide. As with any walk at Tyler\, sturdy shoes are suggested. PLEASE NOTE: Strollers may not be ideal on some of our trails. We recommend a carrier if you plan to bring an infant or young child. Weather or other factors may adjust the day’s topic\, but nature will always shine through! In case of inclement weather\, the tour will move indoors.
