SUMMARY:Summer Fridays in the Field at the Wagner Institute of Science
DESCRIPTION:Explore the local ecosystem this summer at the Wagner’s Fridays in the Field! Beginning June 20th\, the Wagner Teaching Garden will be open for independent educational exploration every Friday from 1 – 3:30pm. \nThe Wagner’s Teaching Garden is their most valuable classroom. Not only is their green space full of pollinator gardens\, but it is also a certified Wildlife Habitat\, Bird Habitat\, and Monarch Waystation—their milkweed plants provide valuable nutrients for Monarch butterflies during their cross continental migration. \nVisitors of all ages may borrow hand lenses for close observation of our urban ecosystem\, use nature guides to help identify the different animals\, trees\, and rocks found in their yard\, or take time to relax in the shade and draw from nature. Wagner staff will be available to facilitate use of materials\, but Fridays in the Field is a mostly unguided opportunity to experience the Wagner Teaching Garden. \nVisitors looking to attend Fridays in the Field must enter the museum through the front entrance on Montgomery Street and check in with the front desk. Visitors who walk-in and visitors who preregister will have full access to the museum and access to the yard from 1:00 – 3:30 pm on Fridays.

This weekend’s artist is Amber Woods Designs and music will be provided by Jeffrey Norman at 9:00 am and Jody Drive at 10:30 am. \nThe Community Tent will have representatives from the Swarthmore Tree Committee and the kids activity presented by members of the Wesley AME Church is Watercan Art. \nThe Swarthmore College OneCard is accepted at most vendor stands and PA FMNP vouchers are accepted for fresh fruits and vegetables.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Cynaotypes Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, attendees will learn about the mysterious and beautiful artistic process known as cyanotype. The cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic processes\, developed in 1842 as a way to create multiple copies with UV light. It is actually the original blueprint! \nOver the course of three hours\, you will learn the history of the process and how to create your own Prussian blue botanical prints. All materials and plant matter are provided\, but you are welcome to bring objects to experiment with (flowers from your garden\, glass containers\, jewelry\, dried botanicals\, coins\, etc). During the workshop\, there will also be time to forage for botanicals outdoors. Afterwards\, you will know the process and have many beautiful works to take with you! All levels welcome. \nThis workshop is run by Emie Hughes\, a mixed-media artist\, painter\, and modern dance choreographer. \nCost of the workshop is $75\, which includes all materials.

All guests will be given a voting ballot upon their arrival and attendees can vote for their favorites in four categories: \n\n\n\n\n\nPeople’s Choice\nMost Unique\nBest Custom/Modified Car\nKid’s Pick.\n\nWinners will be announced at 4:00 pm. \nAll outdoor seating is first come\, first served including the pavilion & fire pits. The venue recommends guests pack their own chairs and blankets just in case. \nWine Tastings are not available for this event. Wine will be available to purchase by the glass & bottle. This outdoor space is family-friendly; however\, some areas of the lawn are reserved for adults only. \nThis event will be held outdoors and is completely weather dependent.
