DESCRIPTION:The Gay Street Open-Air Market returns for 2026! \nEach year\, four blocks of Gay Street (from Matlack Street to Darlington Street) are closed to vehicles so everyone can partake in al fresco dining and shopping. Restaurants extend into the street\, so you can enjoy the beautiful weather as you eat. \nThis year\, Gay Street will be shut down for the Open-Air Market every weekend (Friday morning through Monday morning). Gay Street will remain closed to vehicles on Monday holidays (Memorial Day and Labor Day) and start a day early on Thursdays ahead of Friday holidays (Juneteenth and Independence Day). \nDowntown West Chester has a variety of on-street parking\, surface lots\, and parking garages available. \nOpportunities for free parking downtown: \n\nOn-street parking is free on Saturdays until 5pm.\nOn-street parking\, surface lots\, and parking garages are free on Sundays (excluding the Chester County Justice Center Garage).\nEvery First Friday of the month\, on-street parking is free after 5pm.\n\nGay Street is closed to vehicles for the Open-Air Market every weekend from May through September.

Participants will make fun and challenging science projects using candy and food items\, including Rock Candy\, Candy Slime\, and Pop Rocks. \nEach 1½-hour Chemistry session runs from 6:30–8 p.m. and costs $35 per child\, plus sales tax.
