Upper Merion Township Library, in partnership with Girl Scout Troop 7940, is holding an MLK Day of community service on Mon., Jan. 16 from 9 am to 12 pm in Freedom Hall. To honor the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., it is important to remember the third Monday in January isn’t a day off, but “a day on” to volunteer and give back to our communities and causes that matter.
The library will have multiple volunteer stations at this event. You can choose to make art bags for CHOP patients, write letters for veterans, make dog toys for shelter animals, organize blessing bags for homeless, make bird feeders for local wildlife, decorate Meals on Wheels bags, or repurpose donated jeans and shoes for Ugandan children. Plus there will be signups for future volunteer opportunities. The library will also be accepting donations of food for the Community Cupboard, feminine hygiene products for high school, and Ukraine supplies.
This is an all-ages activity and walks-ins are welcome! Come for an hour or stay for the entire event. Free commemorative MLK Day of Service T-shirt for each participant while supplies last!
