Holy Smokehouse! 18th Century Cooking Demonstration

Winters were harsh in the 18th century and the Wentz family prepared with plenty of provisions. Without refrigeration, colonial families found other ways to preserve food. Visit the smokehouse to learn how meats were flavored, cured, and preserved at an 18th century farm. Then check out the summer kitchen to see how those provisions were used. Our cooks will be demonstrating open-hearth cooking and baking in our beehive bake oven. Find out what types of food a family like the Wentzes ate this time of year as you enjoy the sights and smells of good home cooking! All ages and free.
