The Calliope Joy Foundation

Calliope LogoFounded in honor of Calliope Joy Carr, who was diagnosed at age 2 with a fatal neurological disorder called late-infant onset metachromatic leukodystropy, the Calliope Joy Foundation serves children like our beautiful Calliope by raising funds for research in pediatric neurology and supporting pediatric palliative care and hospice at Pennsylvania's only children's hospice unit: Abington Hospital Kind Pediatric Hospice Unit.

Each year, the Foundation hosts Cal's Cupcake Challenge, the world's largest (as far as we know) gourmet cupcake cupcake tasting. The event includes music, arts and crafts, prizes, rides, games, and of course, 4000 cupcakes from 10 of Philadelphia's finest bakeries. Our initiatives include supporting families caring for children with neurological disease, funding the Class of 1989 Wellesley College Summer Fellowship in Pediatric Neurology, grants for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Pediatric Advanced Care Team, bridge and start up research monies in the field of pediatric neurology, and Cal's Wishes Fund to help families caring for children in the end of life.
