Homeschool Week at LEGOLAND Discovery Center

 This week, LEGOLAND offers $10 tickets for home school students and their families, and features LEGO Education workshops during select operational hours. Must provide a valid form of home school documentation or identification to Admissions upon check-in.

Service and Celebration: Where to Spend MLK Day in Philly

Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy with volunteer work and more. If you’d like to seize the opportunity this year to help your kids understand King’s ideas — and the broader concept of helping others in his memory — here are some family-friendly options.

 

MLK Day-Off Camps

If your kids have off on Martin Luther King Jr. Day but you have work or an adults-only service project, you’re in luck: lots of places around town are offering one-day break camps sure to entertain kids of all ages and interests!

MLK Interfaith Day of Service

January 2o, 9:45 am–noon

Adath Israel, 250 North Highland Ave., Merion Station

 

All are welcome to participate in service projects including assembling toiletry kits and food bags, making friendship bracelets and pillows, and more.

H-CAN MLK Day

January 2o, 11 am–12:30 pm

Haverford Township Free Library, 1601 Darby Rd., Havertown

 

MLK Day programming for teens, adults, and children. The morning will feature community service projects, educational activities, crafts, history and more led by nine nonprofit community partners.

HomeCooked Workshops

January 20, 10 am — 1 pm or 2 — 5 pm

1 Paoli Plaza, Paoli

 

HomeCooked is adding a service component to its regular school break camp. They will supply extra ingredients for everyone to use to make extra Shepherd’s Pies which will be donated to local families in need. Kids will also make a snack and a fun dessert to bring home! For ages 6.5-11. Pre-registration required.

Family Fun: Pizza at Home

January 20, 10 am

Sur la Table, 690 W. DeKalb Pike, King of Prussia

 

Kids 6 and up with a caregiver will enjoy making pizza dough for homemade pizzas and learn how to put together a super simple and delicious tomato sauce. Plus, churn gelato for a sweet finish! Pre-registration is required.

MLK Day of Service at Elmwood Park Zoo

January 20, 11 am—2 pm

1661 Harding Blvd., Norristown

 

Guests can join staff members and volunteers in making toys for some of the zoo’s animals, as well as for the dogs at the SPCA. A therapy dog from the SPCA will be at the zoo to join the fun…and perhaps test some of the handmade toys! The zoo will provide old t-shirts for the toys, but guests are also encouraged to bring their own. Zoo admission will be discounted to $5 for the entire day. A portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated to the Montgomery County SPCA.

MLK Day of Service at Tredyffrin Public Library

January 20, 11 am—5 pm

Register online for a time slot to help clean the library shelves. Families are encouraged to attend.

OrKID Day

Clay Accessory Workshop
