Helping to Ease Dental Anxiety at Haverford Smiles
Whether searching for general dentistry services or more advanced treatment options, Dr. Souliman and the Haverford Smiles team are ready to make your next dental visit as relaxing and stress-free as possible.
Scared to go to the dentist? You’re not alone. In fact, a 2005 study published by the Journal of the American Dental Association concluded that “dental anxiety was an influencing factor in regular dental visit behavior.” Dr. George A. Souliman, the new owner of Haverford Smiles, a general dentistry family practice located in Haverford, understands that not all patients feel comfortable going to the dentist and has made it his mission to help alleviate those fears.
Leave Anxiety at the Door
With meticulous attention to details, the Haverford Smiles team ensures that patients are treated to a calm and welcoming dental experience from the moment they walk in the door. “From the lighting to the decor–to even the smell of the office, we are focused on helping clients feel as relaxed as possible while they’re here,” Dr. Souliman explains.
Whether there for general dental care, cosmetic dentistry, or oral surgery, each patient is treated as an individual with a “no rush” treatment philosophy. Dr. Souliman attributes his clients’ comfort level to the practice’s commitment to spending as much time as needed to explain and educate so that patients can make the best decisions for their own health. Having control over the treatment process helps alleviate anxiety and makes the dental visit less stressful.
Dr. Souliman emphasizes that each client’s unique needs are addressed at every turn and that, ultimately, the client has complete control over the course of the treatment. Patient autonomy, part of the American Dental Association Code of Ethics, is the idea that patients are entitled to make informed decisions about their healthcare. As an attending physician at Albert Einstein Medical Center, he is passionate about teaching that philosophy to dental residents.
What Happens During a Dentist Appointment?
Knowing what to expect during a visit to the dentist can also help alleviate dental anxiety. Dr. Souliman explains that when a new patient arrives at Haverford Smiles, he/she is greeted by the warm, friendly staff before being led to a private exam room. Highly trained, each staff member’s mission is to make the patient feel as comfortable as possible while receiving the highest level of dental care.
“We want to educate our patients – explain the ‘why’ of what we recommend and discuss the condition and how it’s affecting them. Then they have the ability to decide [the course of treatment],” Dr. Souliman emphasizes.
Every recommendation, every treatment, and every product is picked with meticulous care, following comprehensive diagnostic tests and consultation with the patient. There is no “one size fits all” mentality at Haverford Smiles.
Patients are considered family, and Dr. Souliman and his team are committed to providing the highest quality care in the most relaxing environment. “We never use anything on our patients that we wouldn’t use on ourselves or our family members. And we have very high standards,” Dr. Souliman smiles.
Pediatric Dentist vs Family Dentist
With 14 years of general dentistry experience, Souliman primarily treats family members with adult teeth. He understands that knowing when to switch from a pediatric dentist to a general dentist can be a confusing process. During that mixed dentition stage, when there are both baby and adult teeth, if there is a problem with an adult tooth, a general dentist is able to treat such cases.
He coordinates care with pediatric dentists to ensure that his patients are receiving the optimum, age-appropriate care and to make sure parents know that their child is being well taken care of. No patient is lost in the shuffle or looked at as just another client at Haverford Smiles.
Offering Routine and Advanced Dental Care
Highly trained in advanced procedures like implants, cosmetic dentistry (Including veneers & crowns), oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, and certified in Invisalign treatment, Dr. Souliman is able to offer his clients a well-rounded, comprehensive array of treatments. For those with dental anxiety, being able to be treated for a multitude of issues by a dentist they’re familiar with can help ease some of the stress associated with advanced dental procedures.
Dr. Souliman has also received extensive training in dental trauma cases so, when his patients have a dental emergency due to sports injuries or accidents, he is able to provide treatment in the same relaxing office environment.
For cases that require more specialized treatment, Souliman personally coordinates care with highly regarded local specialists to ensure that his patients are getting the extraordinary care they are accustomed to at Haverford Smiles. Dr. Souliman prides himself on guiding his clients every step of the way.
