Best Bakery

Clays Bakery
Homemade chocolate chip cookies. Cinnamon swirls. Chocolate croissants. The allure of the daily baked treats draws the crowds to Clays, a family-owned and operated business that’s been feeding our sweet tooth for more than 25 years. From a special after school treat to a custom wedding cake, Clays always delivers delicious results and stellar customer service.

“We strive to go above and beyond for each request that is made by our amazing customers,” says owner Denise Bones. “We love the closeness of community. We are so lucky to have such loyal customers that we have gotten to know as well as call friends. It truly makes it a joy to come to work every day.”

Best Caterer

Carlino’s Specialty Foods
With deep roots in Italian traditions and recipes and more than 30 years serving the Main Line, it’s no wonder the delicious spreads from Carlino’s continue to win us over. Now owned by the third generation of the family and boasting two locations, Carlino’s is a go-to for artisan cheeses, homemade desserts, signature pasta and sauces, prepared gourmet take away foods, and more, which will make for an impressive catering spread at your next party.

Best Coffee Shop

Green Engine Coffee
The power of a good cup of coffee is not lost of parents. Perhaps that’s why there’s such love for Green Engine Coffee, a newer neighborhood coffee shop with a laid back feel and but very serious focus on great coffee. Espresso-based drinks, cold, slow-brewed options, and Kyoto style-coffee are paired with a menu of locally sourced sustainable foods, as well as staff with a great attitude.

“We’re happy to be sharing a happy part of their day,” says owner Zach Morris. “Often, we see at least two generations of a family, sometimes three, come in and spend time together at Green Engine. They come in and sit down for awhile and aren’t in a hurry. They focus on each other and sharing a light moment in their busy lives. The fact that we can foster that just a little bit is really fulfilling.”
16 Haverford Station Road, Haverford;

Pour Richards
36 Berkley Road, Devon;

Gryphon Café
1225 Montrose Ave., Rosemont and 105 W. Lancaster Ave., Wayne;

Best Grocery Delivery

When you can’t get to the store but need groceries quickly, let the store come to you. A clever little app that caught fire when launched in 2012, the program allows you to select what you need from nearby stores and have it all magically (ok, someone picks it up for you) delivered to your front door.

Best Ice Cream

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream
If it’s hot out, there’s probably a line at this quaint and classic ice cream shop. Beloved for it’s wide array of flavors, you can go classic with a cone or sundae, or try one of their signature items like the Handel Pop (a scoop of ice cream on a stick and dunked in chocolate) or a Handel Hurricane, a soft mix of vanilla ice cream and your favorite crushed candies.
576 Lancaster Ave., Berwyn;

Village Treats
236 Haverford Ave., Narberth;

The Wayne Coffee & Ice Cream Bar
134 N. Wayne Ave., Wayne;

Best Meal Delivery Service

So, what’s for dinner? If you haven’t a clue, you need to give HomeCooked (above) nia try. Offering wholesome, delicious, family-friendly meals (think Pretzel Crusted Chicken, Mexican Tortilla Lasagna, Flank Steaks, and Buffalo Chicken Dip) that are a breeze pull together, it’s a busy night must.

“We help parents get meals they feel good about on their dinner table — just pop the meals in the oven, no slicing or dicing,” says owner Claire Guarino. “We offer pick up or delivery and can customize our meals to accommodate personal preferences and allergies.”
1 Paoli Plaza, Paoli;

54 Lancaster Ave., Ardmore;

Blue Apron

Best Pizza

Anthony’s Coal Fire Pizza
With a blistered crust and perfectly gooey cheese, the gourmet but not-so-fancy-the-kids-won’t-eat pies at this casual space make everyone in the family happy. Not a pizza fan? Really? Try the coal-oven sandwiches, massive salads, or hearty classic dishes dubbed “Italian Soul Food.”

Jules Thin Crust
149 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore and 114 E. Lancaster Ave., Wayne;

Paola’s Pizzeria e Cucina
128 N. Wayne Ave., Wayne;

Best Place for Dinner When You Have a Sitter

White Dog Cafe
Comfortable yet refined, rustic yet polished, the White Dog Café came into Wayne more than five years ago and like a new puppy, stole our hearts. Since the award-winning contemporary American cuisine, environmental sustainability, and warm hospitality have kept us coming back. That, and the whimsical décor.

“We’ve enjoyed becoming a part of the neighborhood, and getting to know all of our guests who dine with us,” says Kerrie Van Horn, director of marketing and communications. “We consider White Dog our home and love welcoming the community to relax and dine with us. There is nothing better than having a family celebrate a special occasion and enjoy our food together with our family.”

Best Pace for Dinner with the Family

Christopher’s a Neighborhood Place
A neighborhood stalwart with staying power, the casual atmosphere, welcoming staff, and quality food make Christopher’s a fun and enjoyable place to spend an evening with family and friends, no matter their age. But it helps that the kids’ menu here is diverse and both kid-and parent-approved.

“We love watching families grow up,” says owner Molly Todd. “We have people who had a first date at Christopher’s in Wayne, and are now married with kids!”
