We at MLP are all about supporting our local community resources — but many of them can’t be found strolling down your ‘hood’s main street. Head online to find these neighborhood creatives and their adorable holiday wares.

With less than a month left to get your never-ending holiday to-do list done, you might need some help with last minute gift ideas, décor, and desserts. We all know it can be super easy to run out to your local mall or superstore and pick up odds and ends  – but we have an ever better solution for you: Etsy.

In case you don’t know, Etsy is a marketplace where people around the world connect to buy and sell unique goods. The coolest part about Etsy is that you can search for shops that are in your state, county, and even ZIP code ‘€“ therefore you are supporting small business in your own community from the comfort of your own home.

We have taken the liberty of compiling five of our favorite local Pennsylvania Etsy shops where you can find toys, décor, gifts, chocolate, and crafts for the kids. Take a look at the shop descriptions below and remember when you shop on Etsy you are supporting the local businesses that are within your own backyard ‘€“ all while staying in your PJs (how can that get any better?).

Toys for the Kiddies

Mama May I

Philadelphia, PA

Mama May I has been a vital force on the Etsy platform since 2009, and is run by stay-at-home mother Jessica, who specializes in making handmade Montessori- and Waldorf-inspired educational toys. These adorable wooden toys come in a rainbow of colors and a variety of toys.  One of her biggest selling items is The Family Box, a box of wooden people in a variety of sizes, representing the different shapes and sizes of a family. It even comes with bags for each family member to stay safe in ‘€“ or for the ones with creative imaginations, ‘€œsleeping bags’€. The best part about all of Mama May I toys is that they are designed to teach children; whether it’€™s a counting or matching toy, your kids are going to learn and have fun with anything from this shop. Speaking of matching, check out her Make a Match ‘€“ Nature Edition game. It’€™s too cute for words!

Homemade Chocolate

hitsthespot

Williamsport, PA

This mother of two growing boys is confident that she can bake and make chocolate goodies. Her confidence has landed her a spot on Etsy, where she opened hitsthespot in 2009 and has had more 900 sales in the past four years (woah!). Hitsthespot specializes in homemade truffles, chocolates, and baked goods, with all of their items coming in the cutest and most delectable packaging. If you are looking to add some sweets to your holiday party menus, or want to add some tasty chocolate covered yummies to the kid’€™s stockings, you should check out the hitsthespot inventory.  Her chocolate-covered Oreos look as amazing as they taste! Bonus: hitsthespot will do gift baskets and custom orders, too, so if you have a specific chocolate covered idea in mind, don’€™t hesitate to ask.

Crafts for the Kids

Celebration Kits

Philadelphia, PA

The holiday season is one where the kids are eager and excited to help! They want to get their hands in the baking, cooking, and, of course, decorating. This Philadelphia Etsy shop, founded by Sara Carter, has created a fun do-it-yourself home décor kit for your little ones to get involved with. Celebration Kits deliver a variety of DIY options for the kids, including their Fabric Garland Celebration Kit. It’s easily assembled, and is of a sturdy material that you can put it away and use it again next year. String this garland over the mantle, in a doorway, on a banister, or anywhere your heart desires.

Gift Ideas

Bushel & Peck Paper

Philadelphia, PA

Make your youngsters squirm a little bit with a fun gift from Bushel & Peck Paper. Their Naughty of Nice bag can be filled with fun toys (if they were nice) or with coal (for the naughty ones). This bag can be used as a décor piece and can be customized to have the kids names on it. You could even put the family pet’€™s name on it ‘€“ or even better, Dad’€™s name on it (tehehe). Bushel & Peck Paper have sold hundreds of these bags this holiday season, proving that they are a must-have for any kid-friendly household.

Holiday Décor

Lane of Lenore

Abington, PA

Shop owner Mike has created a business using homemade pieces from his 1940s house to create holiday and home décor wooden pieces. Having just opened his online Etsy shop this past October, Lane of Lenore has a very vibrant shop, with great one-of-a-kind items. We love this rustic snowman picket fence, which would look great outside any front stoop, or indoors near the fireplace. The kids will fall for the wooden firewood reindeer (and his nose really glows!). This cutie of a reindeer is small enough to be kept inside; yet rustic enough to create a classic and vintage feel to your holiday décor.
