For over 75 years, Main Line Art Center in Haverford has served as the creative home for generations of community members of all ages, levels, and abilities. Its mission is to inspire and engage artistic creativity for all ages and abilities and to celebrate and strengthen the essential role of visual art in community life. Each year, the art center educates nearly 5,000 people through its art classes, outreach programs, lectures, and art camps. In keeping with its mission, Main Line Art Center pioneers a unique series of outreach programs for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, and grants $12,000 in need-based scholarships annually.
camp11Come summer, the art center inspires the next generation of creative minds with their summer art camps, available as half-day or full-day camps. This year camp will be “legendary” as campers get their hands dirty with drawing, painting, fiber arts, photography, printmaking ceramics, jewelry, and loads of fun while exploring myths and legends from around the world! Main Line Art Center’s Art Camp runs in eight one-week sessions, June 24-August 16, and this year will take place at The Shipley School while the art center undergoes an exciting renovation. Art Camp is open to ages 4 to 5 for half days (morning only), and ages 6 to 13 in full or half days (morning or afternoon).
Each session, campers work with professional Teaching Artists to explore a new theme and create unique masterpieces that incorporate fine arts and craft techniques from around the world. Projects are designed to emphasize creative expression while teaching the fundamentals of art. Each Friday they welcome a new Visiting Artist, and then conclude the day with an exhibition of our masterpieces for family and friends. Young artists leave with their arms full of awesome art projects, a slew of new friends, and skills in collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving and self-expression. Children develop a foundation for learning and a passion for the arts that they can build on for the rest of their lives.
The art center also offers before care, after care, and lunch care (for half day campers). Membership is not required to participate in programs, although it does offer many great year-round benefits including discounted tuition for camp, classes and family workshops, birthday parties, discounts at art supply stores, and more. Scholarships are available for families with financial hardships; please call for an application. Discounts are available for multiple sessions and siblings, and tuition can be paid in two installments.
For more information about Summer Art Camp, attend the camp open house at Shipley’s Middle School on Saturday, April 13, from 1:30-3:30 pm. Meet camp staff, see sample projects, participate in a cool art activity and score free giveaways!  RSVP to mlac.camp@gmail.com
