Help parents locally and nationwide protect one of the simplest and most essential needs of our families: clean air.

Almost one quarter of children in southeastern PA suffer from asthma. It’s a staggering statistic, and one that gets right to the heart of any parent who has ever watched, helplessly, as their child struggles to simply breathe. Moms Clean Air Force is a group of more 53,000 moms and dads nationwide, including celebrity names like Julianne Moore and Laila Ali, who have a distinct passion for improving the quality of our air, not only for those currently suffering from it, but for the health of all children.

Locally the Pennsylvania chapter is powered by Gretchen Alfonso, a Philadelphia mother of three. After attending a mercury testing that found she was harboring high levels, she’s worked to organize and mobilize as many concerned parents as she can in an effort to create change in how we treat our natural resources. “Our issues go beyond just telling pregnant women to stay away from tuna,” she says. “Children and women from across our region are dealing with the effects of mercury, carbon, and other toxins that are in our air.” Read more on the organization’s website to see just what she and the group are up against.

No matter how daunting the statistics, even a few moments of time can help. If you only spare five minutes, Alfonso says signing this current petition to Barack Obama and Mitt Romney may help get the presidential candidates to address greenhouse gas pollution in their campaign speeches and future legislation.

Or join Alfonso and other local supporters at one of two upcoming events:
